A Light-Hearted Addition To The Holiday Party

As mentioned in the opening letter, we will be seeing the release of Beaujolais Nouveau on the 15th of this month.

We are pleased to feature Carra's Beaujolais Nouveau as one of our featured holiday wines. Beaujolais is produced with Gamay grapes and is always a fall harvest wine. It is an unusual wine in that it is not fermented in the traditional sense and goes from harvest to the table in only six weeks. As expected, Beaujolais is very light, very fruity, and low in tannins. It is also important to remember that this red wine has a short life, and must be consumed quickly.

With a release date that is always the third Thursday in November, Beaujolais Nouveau is a common choice for the American Thanksgiving Holiday. Its light, fruity flavor is both festive and carries universal appeal. It's perfect to serve both to a cousin who's a novice wine drinker and to an aunt who spends her summers in Bordeaux. And like Riesling, Beaujolais Nouveau pairs well with many different foods.

Our favorite Beaujolais is from the Domaine Manoir du Carra, located in the town of Denice that's 40 km from Lyon. The property itself dates back to 1850, and has been passed down from father to son for five generations. What we love about Carra's Beaujolais is its consistent quality for nearly a decade. Beaujolais can vary dramatically in quality from one vintage to another, so this continuity is impressive. We found this particular bottling to be fresh and light with no "off flavors."

Carra's Beaujolais will be in our Southern stores for the next three months, so make sure you stop in and buy a bottle of this holiday favorite.
