A Sweet, Succulent Main Course

From the chilly waters of Nova Scotia, our lobsters are flown in fresh to our stores. Because they are caught wild, you can be assured that our lobsters are firm, meaty, and flavorful-more so than farmed lobsters might be.

We of course sell our lobsters live, but we are happy to steam them for you upon request. If you decide to prepare your lobster yourself, here are some tips:

  • If you don't plan to cook your live lobster as soon as you get home, it will keep for 24 hours in a refrigerator or cooler (33 to 40 degrees Fahrenheit). Keep it moist with seaweed, wet paper towels or wet newspaper. Don't immerse your lobster in ice or water, as they can suffocate.

  • The best way to cook them at home is to use a pot (with lid) deep enough to create a steam pot. Use a colander to keep the lobsters out of the water. Use about 2-4 cups of water in the pot, just enough to reach the base of the colander. Add a little beer to the water for flavor. Steam for 15-17 minutes for one lobster, 17 minutes for two.

  • All that is needed now is melted butter, lemon and a utensil, such as a hammer cracker, or cocktail fork.
