This cake is both a statement and affirmation of love! The petit opera cake begins with a yellow biscuit soaked in coffee liqueur and alternated with layers of mocha butter cream & dark chocolate ganache.
The crispy layers of biscuit have hints of rich coffee and gentle almond flavors, all surrounded by smooth and creamy chocolate. It makes for a beautiful presentation, and is small enough for two people to share.
Opera Cake's origins
The Opera cake made its public debut in 1903, when Louis Clichy presented it at the Exposition Culinaire in Paris and named it after himself. Years later, the Parisian patisserie Dalloyau reintroduced the cake as "L'Opera," named after the Paris Grand Opera. The name makes sense, as the cake is comprised of several layers, similar to "acts" in an operatic presentation.
